NPI Extensions

Some states may require an additional configuration for 837P and/or 837I billing known an an NPI extension. This is a three digit extension to the customers current National Provider Identifier (NPI). This feature will be enabled as required. If you have a need for this feature, please reach out to the iCM Helpdesk for more information.
NPI Extension
- If a CPT Code requires an NPI extension, in Manage Funding Streams, select your CPT Code and choose Edit.
- While in the edit mode, check the option for Add NPI Extension and Update. This selection will enable iCM to search for an extension as part of the billing batch file generation process.

- In iCM-Settings->Label Management, repurpose the Manage Programs field of "DDA License No" and record the custom term of "NPI Extension".

- In Manage Programs, use this field to enter the required three digit NPI extension if all Individuals in that Program will use the same extension. Or if each Site has it's own NPI extension, enter for each Site.

- If the CPT code uses an Individual specific NPI extension such as for a Shared Living program, leave the Manage Program NPI extension blank. Individual NPI Extensions will be added in the Individual Profile.

- In the Individual Profile->Addresses, Add or Edit the current address.

- Select the Address Type: Home and add the "From Date", which is the date the person moved into the location. Then add the NPI Extension and Save.

- The "To Date" will only be used when an Individual moves to a new location.

- When a move occurs customers must first enter the "To Date" in the existing location before adding the new location. Customers will receive this pop over informing them of this requirement if it was omitted.

- For CPT codes where this NPI extension is required, iCM will fetch the NPI extension and add this to the Billing View's data and the batch file for billing.
